Exercise Physiology 

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist is a university qualified allied health professional who assesses, designs and delivers exercise programs for a wide range of conditions such as chronic health conditions, musculoskeletal rehab, liabilities and more 

How can an Exercise Physiologist Help? 

​

AEPs provide services to people across the full health spectrum, healthy through to those at risk of developing a health condition as well as people already with health conditions, a disability and aged related illnesses, including chronic, complex conditions. 

Accredited Exercise Physiologists can:

» Improve and maintain health status and function

» Prevent decline of health status 

» Prevent, treat, and manage health conditions (including diseases, disorders, traumas and injuries), including complex, chronic conditions 

» Screen, assess, and measure capacity and function for activities of daily living and work-related activities, and to inform interventions

» Prescribe, deliver, adapt, and evaluate movement, physical activity, and exercise-based interventions

» Enhance and maintain function and quality of life

» Facilitate recovery and promote reablement 

» Maximise independence 

» Educate and advise about health and well-being and how physical activity and exercise can improve health outcomes

» Empower people to improve health outcomes, and self-manage health conditions

» Coach and motivate to increase engagement and self-efficacy in treatment and physical activity, including addressing client preferences, needs, barriers, and goals

ACCREDITED EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGIST APPOINTMENTS CAN BE CLAIMED ON:

Private Health Insurance (No referral needed)

(No referral needed). Please check with your insurer to see if you are covered for Exercise Physiology services.

 

Medicare (GP referral essential)

Up to 5 subsidised visits per year, Chronic disease management plan. First session initial assessment 60 minutes then subsequent sessions 30 mins.

 

Workers Compensation and CTP

A referral from your nominated treating doctor or insurance case manager is required before commencement of services.

 

NDIS (Self or plan managed)

Individualised exercise targeted to your specific needs to improve function and activities of daily living. If plan managed, please ensure you send through your plan managers details along with your NDIS number to ensure timely invoicing.

 

DVA 

Referral needed from GP. Gold card patients are covered for health conditions, White card patients are covered for specific/accepted conditions only. Gold and White cards accepted as payment. Treatment will last up to 12 sessions or one year, which ever one ends first. Once treatment has ended the client will need a new referral from their GP before another treatment cycle can commence. The client can have as many treatment cycles as their GP determines clinically necessary.

 

*Group Exercise type 2 diabetes – Medicare

Group service for the management of type 2 diabetes. Must have an initial assessment of 45 minutes prior to commencement. The service is provided to groups of 2-12 people. The class is 60 minutes. Expression of interest please contact Kylie direct.  Must have a referral from GP.
